Sophie Broadhead

Wordsmith, Poet, Founder

Welcome to Poetic Licence,  the happy marriage of three things I love in life - people, celebrations and writing in rhyme!

Birthdays and special occasions with friends and family, here in Ireland and abroad, have been the inspiration for many a poetic line over the years - there’s is no greater pleasure than someone grinning from ear to ear when they receive, and hear, their very own bespoke poem. I primarily write ‘Odes’, but every piece is completely different. The aim is always the same - a ginormous smile and sometimes even a tear!

As well as working with words, I also trained as a goldsmith and have been involved in jewellery for long time. There are lots of overlaps between the melodious world of rhyme and the sparkling world of gemstones. Both realms are very personal, possibly emotional, and involve asking the right questions and really absorbing the answers - there’s a lot of chat, which is a very good thing! Mix all of this up with a bilingual brain (English / Spanish), an eye for detail, an ear that relishes rhythm, a passion for people and the result is a fun, and personal, Poetic Licence poem - so lovely, and so unique!

Find out more about me in An Ode to an Old Toad and drop me an email so you can tell me about the person you’d like to order a bespoke poem for!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Sophie
